Fitness Gym:
1 To carry out instructional or coaching courses in line with qualifications and experience, including inductions, fitness assessments, formulating personal programmes and carrying out personal training, at any of the gyms managed by Sport and Leisure. This will be as directed by the Fitness Manager
2 Supervision, control and safety of users within the fitness and weight training areas.
3 To assist and encourage users to make the most of the gym, to meet their goals, and to ensure fair use of equipment. To pass on ideas for improvement to the Management Team.
4 To ensure the cleanliness and tidiness of the fitness area itself and its associated areas.
5 To check and maintain the safety of equipment and its use and to carry out first aid as necessary.
6 To immediately report faults in building, furniture, heating and ventilating plant and mechanical equipment to the Management team.
7 To answer, in a polite manner, general enquiries from members of the public, whether by telephone or in person, giving information on opening hours, facilities, charges, booking procedures and to refer more complex enquiries to the Management team. Carry out Reception duties as requested.
8 To handle politely and tactfully any disturbances or other matters related to health and safety and security, ensuring that appropriate procedures are followed and referring to the Management team where necessary.
9 To undertake all work in accordance with the Health and Safety at Work Act and any other legislation and codes of practice, including the use of protective clothing.
10 To assist with the care and control of all stock and equipment, to carry out basic administrative duties as directed and, when necessary to court monies.
11 To attend courses and seminars as instructed and to undertake examinations for courses when required.
12 To carry out routine maintenance of a non-skilled nature appropriate to the needs of the service including locker locks, sports equipment repair or other tasks identified by the Management team.
13 To assist in the development of the activities programme, promotional events and marketing.
14 To ensure that the gym is safe, clean and that customer care, security and maintenance standards are adhered to.
15 To undertake any duties that may be reasonably required, in accordance with the role of fitness instructor.
Requirements:
- A fitness instructor’s certificate or equivalent
- A good standard of general fitness
- The understanding of equal opportunities within the context of a student leisure environment
- The ability to direct and supervise users in the safe use of the gym are essential for this post.
- You should have excellent communication, administrative and organisational skills, as well as high standards of customer care.
- A sports/fitness-related degree and the experience of gym induction, personal training, programmes/fitness assessments, and first aid is desirable.
- Please note that all posts are offered on a 5 out of 7 day contract and will require flexibility regarding work patterns.
